Firefox for Desktop [Marathi] Pilot Campaign

An event dedicated to the Grow Firefox Marathi Pilot Campaign was organized at Wadia College (Diploma Stream) on 20^th Oct 2015. The event was planned in coordination with Prof. A. A. Jambhale, the Head of the Dept of Computer Sciences. The event was a 2 hours event which was basically aimed in creating an awareness about Firefox in Marathi. 

The number of attendees for this event was approx. 57. Since the idea of Open Source was new to the attendees, the speakers for the event Prathamesh Chavan and Aniket Deshpande started with an introduction to Open Source and Mozilla. They also spoke about the ways to contribute to various Mozilla projects and the FSA program as a whole. Localisation module and Marathi Localisation was discussed in a deeper sense by Aniket.

The participants were then asked to download the Firefox browser in Marathi and start experiencing the same. While the downloading was in progress, the speakers also talked about Privacy over the internet and demonstrated Lightbeam add-on.

The overall event was a success as the pre-defined metrics were fulfilled. We thank Chandrakant Sir for his encouragement and heling us in all possible ways.   

Engineer's Day Celebration

Engineer’s Day 2015 celebration at Firefox Club STES

Event format : Full-day event

The Firefox Club STES had organized the HTML/CSS coding competition using Mozilla Thimble tool and a Graphics Designing workshop for the Engineering students on the occasion of Engineer’s Day.

The events which were organized were divided into 2 phases. In the first phase, the HTML/CSS competition was conducted using Mozilla Thimble. Over 50 new Webmaker accounts were opened and the same number of makes were received. The competition was divided into 3 categories : Second Year Engg, Third Year Engg and Final Year Engg; and a winner from each category was drawn depending on his/her make.

The Graphics Designing workshop was a hands-on workshop which was conducted in the second phase. For this workshop, we were privileged to have Akshay Chitwar, Owner of Mozilla Pune Creative Task Force, as the Guest Speaker. The Engineer’s day poster was created using Corel Draw tool.  The participants were then asked to come up with their own creativity and create an awesome graphic based on the Engineer’s Day theme. The number of participants who attended this event was 115.

MILE at Saswad

The MILE team recently conducted a MILE event at a Saswad-based Orphanage. Saswad is a town which is located approximately 30 kms from Pune city. The orphanage has been housing 40 children who come from an age group of 6 years to 16 years. The children make use of computers for playing games, listening to songs and the office tools for learning the various automated features.

The team initially questioned the participants to understand their awareness about the computers and the internet. The internet was never experienced and thus the team member Prathamesh went on explaining what is Internet, its way of working and its application. Suchita later continued by giving the demonstration of the Internet on the mobile phones. 

Further, it was then realised that the children never got a chance to use a laptop and so Priyanka then asked the participants to type their names on the laptop and explore the same. The event was a great experience for both the team as well as the participants. The team had got some chocolates and Firefox tattoos which were then distributed amongst the children. Thus, the atmosphere became very exciting and rejoicing. 

The overall event was seen as a great success as the participants understood the basics of the Internet and enjoyed the entire session. The team thanked the entire management of the Sarthak Seva Sangh for giving such a wonderful opportunity to interact with the enthusiastic children.
