GNUnify is an annual TechFest of SICSR institute which is organized in the second week of January. It was an amazing experience for me this year as I was invited as a speaker for a talk on Firefox OS Architecture.

Firefox OS is organized in 3 layers : Gechko, Gaia and Gonk. My presentation included a detailed talk on all the 3 layers as well as on the supporting mechanism. 

The audience present for the session belonged from a mixed background i.e. from Engineering background to Commerce. So, it was a need to explain the modules from their basic definition and functionality. It was great to have a curious audience which went on asking all the related queries at the end of the session.

I thank Sayak Sarkar, Ankit Gadgil, Aniket Deshpande, Suraj Kawade and Aman Sehgal for extending a warm support and helping me in all the possible ways for making this session success.

Event Report :

The MILE event was organized in a school which has students coming from a very low income based families. Some students are the first generation of their family to attend schooling. Hence, the MILE team chose this school and organized a web literacy session.

The students knew about computers as they were taught the computer subject in the school. Grasping their knowledge level, the MILE team delivered a session which included the following topics :
- A brief introduction about Computer and Technology
- What is WEB ?
- Activities on the INTERNET
- Videos featuring the practical internet mechanism

 At the end of the session, the attendees were educated about HTML tags and using which the steps to design the web page. Students enjoyed this part as they marveled over the ease in making their own web page.

My journey to MakerFest2015 started on 9^th January with my friend and one of my mentor Tripad accompanying me. I was very very excited since this was the first time I was representing Mozilla outside my hometown Pune. It was very special for me as I was about to meet some of the very active Mozillians from India.

After reaching Ahmedabad, me and Tripad immediately headed to the fest where a totally exciting, enthusiastic world was awaiting. From wonders of 3D printing to simple idea turned amazing techno-art, everything unique was roped-in. The ever amazing Mozillians team managed by THE awesome Sujith was the star attraction among all other booths. Sujith, Santosh, Mayur, Abid , Ajay and Tripad became my Corinthian family.

The Mozillian team was to conduct sessions on internet awareness and webmaker tools. I got a chance to engage the attendees with topics ranging from web literacy to teach and explain webmaker tools. These awesome tools became so popular in the fest that the Mozilla booth was always filled with enthusiast hungry for experiencing the same.

I learned and got a chance to check out the new trending tech and also the Indian invention or replacement of Google Glass. I also got a chance to actually ride the mono-wheeled cycle which was totally awesome. +1 to everything.

I also took this representation opportunity for commencing the Geolocation project in the city of Ahmedabad by stumbling in most of the visited parts of the city. It was a great experience to be the first one to do it.

I thank Mozilla for giving me such a great opportunity to represent at MakerFest2015.

Expo report :

The volunteers of Mozilla Pune community had hosted an Firefox OS educational booth in the recently concluded CMDA IT Expo. The purpose of this booth was to generate awareness in public regarding the advantages of Firefox OS and promote the same. The open source communities Pune Linux users Group (PLUG) and Wikipedia community also joined us at the booth to promote FOSS technologies.

The Firefox booth was visited by approx. 10,000 attendees. Some of the attendees were aware of the Open Source softwares while others were curious and showed willingness to learn the same. The volunteers got engaged in solving the various questions which the enthusiastic people had in their minds.

The booth was also having 4 cellphones which have been launched in India by the partnered companies. People were availed to have a hands-off kind of thing where they operated and witnessed the marvelous OS.

Some the curious minds were astonished with this stunning OS and immediately purchased the devices.

The overall expo was a big success as thousands of people were made aware of this open source OS. The volunteers also enjoyed this overall experience and felt proud for becoming a part of this grand happening.

The booth was honored with a sign of appreciation by the organizing committee of the CMDA IT expo.  

Special thanks to Sudhanwa Sir, Gaurav Sir, Geeta ma'am and Manjusha ma'am for your support at the booth. It was a great experience for us to work with you all and to know the inside out of Open Source world.
